5. Band On The Run – Paul McCartney

Band on the Run is pretty much Wings’ most famous song, and you can easily see why.

A three part medley behemoth, with a slow ballad section transitioning into a funky rock tune, and then, lastly, into a country-ish kinda sound, the track reached number 1 in the US, was met with widespread critical acclaim, and pretty much guaranteed McCartney’s sustained popularity.

Basically inspired by Paul’s love of pot and the negative public reaction to that, the song has some pretty awesome desperado, freedom-fighter themed lyrics, and above all else is just a genuinely well put together and performed song.
