Has ever a song captured the 60’s anti-war feeling better than this?
No, is the answer, because very little is more anti-war than a hippy looking John Lennon leading a crowd in singing over and over “All we are saying is give peace a chance”.
Written and released in 1969 whilst John was still a member of the Beatles, this was the Plastic Ono Band’s first hit, performing well in both the UK and the US. An anthem for the Vietnam War protestors of the 70’s, this song works so well because it’s just so easy to sing along to. Really, all you need to do is sing the chorus written above, and then let John do those little verse bits which are hard to work out.
