These are some troubling times for Pokémon GO and Niantic. The game is losing millions of players every single week, people are constantly complaining about the lack of new content, and all Niantic seems to care about is posting useless “how to” videos on their Facebook page.
But despite all the negativity surrounding Pokémon GO at the moment, we’re still excited. Excited for trading, excited for battling, excited for legendary Pokémon, and perhaps most of all, we’re excited for Gen 2.
Now, we don’t know when they’re coming (and anyone who tells you otherwise is lying), but that doesn’t mean we can’t talk about how they’ll impact the game when they do arrive. You see, thanks to khrawn over at Reddit, we know roughly how strong each Pokémon from Gen 2 will be.
I won’t bore you with the details, but basically, khrawn has gone ahead and converted each Pokémon’s stats from the main series of games over to Pokémon GO. Assuming Niantic don’t change how Pokémon’s stats are calculated, this is an accurate translation of how strong each Pokémon will be when added to Pokémon GO.
Some are weak, some are strong, and some are downright pathetic. But among all the rabble, a few Pokémon stand out from the pack as the elite. The top dogs. These are the 10 best Pokémon from Gen 2, based entirely on their combined base stats and maximum base CP (assuming IVs of 0, and not taking into consideration Legendary Pokémon):
Base Stats: 183 ATK, 218 DEF, 160 STA, 2131 MAX CP
Meganium is the final evolution of Chikorita, the grass starter Pokémon from Johto, and the first entry in the list. Since Meganium is a grass type, it may prove useful against the army of Vaporeons currently plaguing gyms. Then again, as a third stage evolution of a starter Pokémon, it’s not going to be easy to obtain a Meganium in the first place.
